The newly chartered Niagara Peninsula Rehabilitation Centre was erected in 1970 adjacent to and joined to the Shaver Hospital. An increased patient load led to the original building being enlarged by a 25,000 square foot addition completed in 1991. In addition to the new wing, the $4,200,000.00 project entailed both alterations and upgrading to the existing building, as well as indoor and outdoor treatment areas.
