Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary
For Brock University, Ontario

Project
Project Phase
Central Canada’s Theological Training Centre for the Lutheran Church is located on the north edge of Brock University’s Glenridge campus. Opened in 1983, its striated concrete block exterior was chosen to harmonize with the neutral colour pallet embraced by Brock for their buildings of that period. Designed on three levels to respect the escarpment edge’s natural site contours, the building houses administrative and academic offices, lecture and seminar rooms, a student/staff lounge, as well as chapel and sizeable library. The introduction of integrated joint programs between Concordia and Brock has intensified the use of Concordia’s facilities, particularly of the library and chapel; in addition to its use for daily services, the chapel, with intentionally “hard” acoustics and pipe organ, has come into prominence as a leading small auditorium for musical events. A three-level elevator was installed in 2004 in a shaft provided for this purpose in the original design.
